Let’s have a tough and loving conversation about those candles you stand in line for and break the internet to get on sale each year. Lighting them up will come at a cost to your health and air quality. We shouldn’t have to worry about this when freshening up our homes.
When purchasing candles, you want to know the type of wax used. The most popular waxes used are paraffin wax, soy wax, coconut wax, beeswax, & palm wax.
Most candle companies typically use paraffin wax (i.e., petroleum-based wax) to make their products, and it is the worst type of wax to burn in your home. Sadly, petroleum releases harmful chemicals like toluene and benzene when burned.
Research has proven that the air quality around paraffin candles is similar to that around a combustion engine. Yuck! These chemicals have been linked to cancer and can cause respiratory issues and asthma.
And then there are the scents. I know the candles smell “Oh, so good” to you, but the ingredients used to create the mesmerizing scent you love are NOT good for you!
Any candle that lists “fragrance” as a main ingredient is most likely using a cocktail of toxic, hormone-disrupting chemicals to achieve that alluring scent.
All of this is a big “NO” for me!
The good news is that I found a clean option that I know you’ll love. I have been using and have fallen in love with Goodlight Candles (@goodlightcandles), which are clean-burning, paraffin-free, and scented with natural essential oils!
Let’s make this clean swap together!
